where has time gone????

Wow, where does time go? Hmmm wait I already know that answer....let's see if I can articulate a day in the life of a busy mama of 2....cooking, cleaning house, cleaning kiddos, cleaning kiddos bottoms, nursing, nap times, cooking and repeating it over and over. So that means things like blogs are on the back burner most days. Well really a lot of things sit back there on those burners, probably even some things that really shouldn't be there. But oh well, what to do.

I told Randy the other day for the first time in years I felt like we had a super chill summer and just totally savored Summer, which to those of us in Michigan is the equivalent to heaven. Now, now we savored it but it was still crazy in the aspect of taking care of 2 little peanuts and trying to find time to be individuals, and a couple and have a social life. But really we spent so much time at different parks and on walks and outside in general. I feel like I've forgotten that winter was ever here it's been such a delightful summer. We relaxed with friends, enjoyed some various adult beverages, planted and harvested a beautiful garden, and hung out on our beloved deck. My ideal summer is relaxed. To enjoy the beauty of the Creator. Randy and I share the thought that we don't like to travel in the summer with the exception of going "up north" as all of us Michiganders put it. Michigan is perfect in the summer and I for one don't want to miss it. Now talk to me in January and February and I will travel just about any where at the drop of a dime to get out of here, but the summer is what we long for and want to savor every last ounce. So we didn't. We stayed put. And I must say it was glorious!

Our little family pretty much lives outside when the weather is nice. Our girls spend a high percentage of their day outside. Norah loves being outside. I can hardly get her to eat breakfast because she wants to go outside instantly in the morning. Sydney's just taking it all in, sights, sounds, smells, all the stimulation. One of Norah's favorite things this summer is to have a little snack time in the garden. She will graze upon our cherry tomatoes, green beans, peas, broccoli, kale (crazy I know), pickles, and herbs. It's adorable. But I love that she at 2 knows what these things are and actually enjoys them. She is understanding the concept of gardening as much as a 2 year old can, and I couldn't be a prouder mama. It makes me smile walking through the farmers market and she's pointing out all the good foods and telling me she needs them and when someone walks by with a hot dog or candy she's like "mama what's that?" Yep I love this!!!

So here's what your really after. The pics of our 2 little cutie pies doing what we've been doing the last few months...

Strawberry picking

Norah enjoying a little "post berry picking treat"

oh this pic. makes me laugh

Norah and daddy hard at work

Trying out some strawberries....if only I would've taken a pic. at the end of our picking--she was covered in red from eating so many and picking so little!!!

Next comes blueberry picking

Randy tied her little bucket around her. I think she must have eaten a least a pound of blueberries. She started by putting some in her bucket and then quickly eating them. Then she progressed to eating out of other peoples buckets, and finally she just walked around and grazed off the bushes. We had some "blueberry" diapers for a few days if you know what I mean!

Starting our Sydney girl off early to adventures of berry picking

Camping Outing

We decided to brave it and head out on a family "camping"adventure in July. Mind you we LOVE camping but we were no dummies---family camping isn't quite the relaxing sit by the beach and read, or kick your feet up and gaze at the stars trip anymore. But wow, packing up our little Honda Civic for a 4 day camping adventure (to a camper trailer---not even true camping by our definition!) was insane. We laughed later about how ridiculous it was but we tried. We don't want to just stay home now that we have kiddos and not continue the "randy and jen adventures." So we don't and sometimes it is just chaos and we wished we would've stayed home. But hey we like adventure so we have to remind ourselves even amongst the chaos it's still adventure, right?

We stayed at Randy's grandparents little camper trailer. A perk--they have a pontoon. It was great to be out on the water

Learning to Fish

Loves the water

All smiles until she realizes she has to wear the life jacket for the next hour

And then this is more the face we got between sobs!

Our summer hobby---the urban organic garden--peas, beans, kale, tomatoes, pickles, broccoli, chard, carrots, onions, lettuce, beets, lots of herbs, peppers---some a succes and some not so much! Part of the learning curve

Summer-Summer-Summer Time

Hmmmmm......blogging....yep, pretty much doesn't exist these days. All the good intentions in the world and still my "to-do" lists remain untouched for weeks/months. I keep thinking at some point I'll jot some things down in Sydney's baby book--I was so diligent with Norah's and I have yet to write a word in Sydney's and she's quickly approaching 5 months. All those things people say just happen really do--even with the best of intentions! Goodness.
Life here has been....good..busy...calm days and pure chaotic days. I suppose that comes with the territory. But I can tell you that I love my two little girls so much it's crazy. I had this secret fear during my pregnancy with Sydney if I could ever possibly love another baby as much as Norah. Surprise I can! God continues to open my heart and show me a space that exists to love another little precious creation. Amazing!
We have fun days, adventurous days, LONG days, fast days, but never boring days at our house. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be bored again? Other days we long to just sit in a hammock and read a book and sip an adult beverage but more than all of it I desire to be so present right now with these two little girls. I don't want to be here and yet miss it--this amazing time with them when they are growing and changing and evolving so much. I don't want to ever look back and "wish I would've......" These little girls have captured our hearts. We wouldn't trade this time with them for anything. What a beautiful gifts God has blessed us with!
Below are some pics. our dear friend Jason took of our little family this summer.

So until next time.....and who knows when that will be! Cheers to you and happy "summering!"

Sydney's photo shoot.

We had a photo shoot for sweet little Sydney when she was 6 days old. She wasn't real happy about it but we still got some really cute pictures of our newest addition. And of course big sis Norah had to get a few pics of her own. At one point Sydney was just really losing it so we picked her up and then Norah hopped up on the chair and started posing for Jason! Absolutely adorable....she kept saying cheese and posing in the cutest little ways...so cute and how can you not take pictures of that. I think we may have created a monster with how many pictures we've taken of Norah. Every time she sees a camera out she starts to smile and say cheese! She probably thinks she famous already!

Sydney Aliya

SYDNEY ALIYA

Our precious baby girl arrived on Thursday March 4, which was almost 2 weeks past her expected due date. I think she just wanted to wait until spring to make her grand entrance into the world. We have had such beautiful weather since she arrived and already she's been out and about in the stroller soaking up the sunshine and fresh air!
She was 19 inches long and weighed 8 pounds 15 ounces...(I've been rounding that up to 9 pounds!) Big baby girl! Almost 2 pounds bigger than her sister! That's significant when it's on a little one and your delivering "au natural" :)
The birth went smooth and quicker than with Norah so that was a definite perk. I was able to deliver all natural again so I was excited about that....although I must admit at one point during the labor I began to think I was a bit crazy for not wanting the drugs, but in the end I was glad I didn't need the drugs and it made the recovery that much easier and faster. Not to mention that we have an amazing midwife that we adore and who makes our birthing experiences that much greater. We have tried to make her promise that she won’t retire until we are all finished having babies!!!

Below are some pics from the last couple weeks:
